We Love ❤️ Our Furry Friends!Pet Check-In FAQs

Because Life Happens - We’ll Check On Your Furry Baby

1. What is a Pet Check-In?

A Pet Check-In is a short, professional visit where we check on your pets when you can’t be home. During each visit, we make sure your dogs and cats have the care included in your confirmed visit, such as food, fresh water, a potty break in an approved secure area or litter box check, light companionship, and a general wellness observation.

Pet Check-Ins are designed to give you peace of mind while you are away without the need for full-time pet sitting or overnight care.

2. How long does a Pet Check-In visit last?

Each visit typically lasts 15–30 minutes, depending on your pet’s needs and the services included in your confirmed Check-In.

Our goal is to give your pet focused, loving attention while making sure their basic needs are taken care of before we leave.

3. What pets do you care for?

We currently offer Pet Check-Ins for dogs and cats.

If you have small pets such as rabbits or guinea pigs, please ask before scheduling your Meet & Greet. We may be able to accommodate certain small pets depending on their care requirements and whether their needs can be handled safely within a Pet Check-In visit.

4. Do you require vaccinations?

Love Furry Babies requires proof of current rabies vaccination for dogs, cats and ferrets before the first unattended Pet Check-In, as applicable under South Carolina law.

Please provide a current rabies certificate or other documentation legally recognized under South Carolina law.

5. What is the initial Meet & Greet?

Before your first unattended Pet Check-In, Love Furry Babies requires a free in-home Meet & Greet with you and your pet.

You meet Sally. Sally meets you. Sally meets your furry baby.

This relaxed, no-charge visit gives you and Sally an opportunity to:

  • Meet each other and help your furry baby become familiar with Sally
  • Review feeding and care routines
  • Discuss behavioral or medical needs
  • Review emergency contact and veterinary information
  • Discuss your planned home-access method
  • Locate food, water, litter, cleaning supplies, and other pet-care items
  • Discuss cameras, alarms, gates, fencing, and other important home information
  • Make sure the arrangement feels safe and comfortable for everyone

This is also one of the advantages of Love Furry Babies Pet Check-Ins: your visits are personally provided by Sally Taylor rather than a rotating group of sitters.

The Meet & Greet is an important part of your Pet Check-In setup and must be completed before your first unattended visit can be accepted.

6. Can I request a Pet Check-In if Love Furry Babies has never met me or my pet?

For safety, no.

Before Love Furry Babies can enter your home for an unattended Pet Check-In, we must first complete the required free Meet & Greet with you and your pet and review the necessary pet-care, emergency, behavioral, and home-access information.

This requirement helps protect:

  • You
  • Your pets
  • Your home
  • Love Furry Babies

Once your Meet & Greet and required information have been completed and your household has been accepted for service, you may request future Scheduled, Same-Day, or Emergency Pet Check-Ins based on availability.

If you are a first-time caller and Love Furry Babies has never met you or your pet, an immediate unattended Pet Check-In cannot be accepted.

7. Can I arrange my Meet & Greet on short notice?

Possibly.

If you need a Pet Check-In soon but you are still home and there is enough time to complete the required Meet & Greet first, contact us as soon as possible.

For example, if you need a Check-In later that day or the following day and we are able to meet you and your pet beforehand, we may be able to complete your setup and then accept the requested Pet Check-In.

Availability is never guaranteed, and the Meet & Greet must be completed before we enter your home without you present.

8. What happens on rainy or stormy days?

Safety comes first.

On rainy or stormy days, outdoor activity may be shortened or changed to keep both your pet and your caregiver safe.

Dogs may receive a quick potty break in their approved secure fenced area when conditions are safe. Cats and indoor pets can receive additional attention indoors.

Outdoor activity may be limited or skipped when conditions involve:

  • Lightning
  • Severe thunderstorms
  • Flooding
  • High winds
  • Extreme heat
  • Unsafe standing water
  • Dangerous road conditions
  • Other unsafe weather conditions

You will receive an update when weather significantly affects your pet’s visit.

9. What if my pet has an accident indoors?

Accidents happen — and that’s okay! 🐾

We’ll clean up a reasonable pet-related accident as best we can using your provided cleaning supplies.

During your Meet & Greet, please show us where you keep items such as:

  • Paper towels
  • Pet-safe cleaning products
  • Waste bags
  • Trash bins
  • Other supplies you would like us to use

Extensive cleaning or household cleaning beyond a normal pet-related accident is not included with a Pet Check-In.

10. What do I need to prepare before my first Pet Check-In?

Before your first unattended visit, please complete the required Pet Check-In information and your free Meet & Greet.

We will need information including:

  • Feeding and watering instructions
  • Potty or litter box information
  • Cleaning supply locations
  • Planned home-access method
  • Emergency contact information
  • Veterinarian and emergency veterinary information
  • Vaccination information
  • Medical information
  • Medication instructions, when applicable
  • Behavioral information and safety concerns
  • Camera and alarm information
  • Information about anyone else who may enter the home

You do not need to give Love Furry Babies your current lockbox code, smart-lock code, alarm code, or hidden-key location during your initial setup.

We will document the type of access method you plan to use. Current access instructions can be provided when a Pet Check-In is requested and confirmed.

11. How does home access work?

For your privacy and security, Love Furry Babies does not require you to give us a permanent house key or provide your access code during initial enrollment.

During your Meet & Greet, we will discuss the access method you plan to use.

Possible access methods may include:

  • A combination lockbox
  • A temporary smart-lock code
  • A concealed backup key location
  • Another agreed and safe access method

You are responsible for making sure your selected access method is working and available when a Pet Check-In is requested.

Current codes or hidden-key locations may be provided when the Check-In is requested and confirmed.

For emergency planning, we strongly recommend that your designated local emergency contact also knows how to provide access if you are unable to communicate.

12. What areas do you serve?

We proudly serve Summerville, Dorchester County, and nearby communities in South Carolina.

Service availability depends on your location, travel distance, current schedule, and the needs of your pets.

If you are nearby and unsure whether your home is within our service area, contact us and we’ll let you know.

13. How do I schedule a Pet Check-In?

Scheduling is easy! 🐶🐱

If you are a new client, your first step is completing the required information and scheduling your free Meet & Greet.

After your Meet & Greet has been completed and your household has been accepted for service, you may request future Pet Check-Ins based on availability.

14. How much do Pet Check-Ins cost?

  • Single Pet Check-In: $20 for one pet
  • Each Additional Pet: +$5
  • Initial Meet & Greet: FREE

There is no charge for your required initial Meet & Greet.

Additional charges may apply when disclosed in advance for circumstances such as extended travel distance, holidays, additional visit time, or other services outside a standard Pet Check-In.

15. Can I schedule Pet Check-Ins on a regular basis?

Absolutely. Pet Check-Ins can be one-time, scheduled in advance, or recurring. If you regularly work late one day each week, have ongoing appointments or commitments, or simply want dependable help built into your pet’s routine, recurring Pet Check-Ins can be arranged based on availability.

16. What if I have an emergency but I’ve never used Love Furry Babies before?

For safety, first-time unattended Pet Check-Ins currently require completion of our FREE Meet & Greet and onboarding before service. If we’ve never met you or your pet and an emergency happens today, please contact us — but we cannot guarantee that an unattended Pet Check-In can be accepted.

That’s exactly why we encourage local pet parents to complete the FREE Meet & Greet before an emergency happens.

17. Can I request an Emergency or Same-Day Pet Check-In?

Yes — once you are an established Love Furry Babies Pet Check-In client.

Emergency and Same-Day Pet Check-Ins are designed for those unexpected situations when life does not go according to plan, such as:

  • A medical emergency
  • Unexpected hospitalization
  • Vehicle trouble
  • Delayed travel
  • A work emergency
  • Unexpected schedule changes
  • Other situations preventing you from getting home as expected

Emergency and Same-Day service is subject to availability and is not guaranteed.

For safety reasons, these services are available only after Love Furry Babies has completed the required Meet & Greet, met your pet, reviewed your information, and accepted your household for Pet Check-In services.

18. How quickly can you respond to an Emergency Pet Check-In?

For an accepted Emergency Pet Check-In, Love Furry Babies will make reasonable efforts to arrive within approximately 2–4 hours.

The response period begins only after:

  • Your request has been accepted
  • Required information is complete and current
  • Payment has been received
  • Safe home access has been confirmed
  • Love Furry Babies has the information needed to perform the visit safely

The 2–4 hour period is a target response window and is not a guaranteed arrival time.

Traffic, distance, weather, existing client commitments, road conditions, emergencies, access problems, and other circumstances may affect arrival time.

Love Furry Babies is not a 24-hour emergency-dispatch, veterinary, rescue, police, fire, or ambulance service.

19. What if my schedule changes or I need to cancel?

We understand that plans change.

Please contact Love Furry Babies as soon as possible when you need to change, reschedule, or cancel a Pet Check-In.

Changes are subject to availability.

Cancellation fees may apply depending on how close the cancellation is to your scheduled visit and whether Love Furry Babies has already begun traveling to your home.

Please review the current Pet Check-In Policies & Service Agreement for complete cancellation and refund terms.

20. Do you send updates during visits?

Yes! 💗🐾

Every completed Pet Check-In includes a photo and text update sent to your mobile phone at no additional charge.

Updates may include information such as:

  • How your pet was doing
  • Food and water
  • Potty or litter box information
  • General behavior
  • Anything unusual we noticed

A delayed message does not necessarily mean the visit was not completed. Cellular service, internet problems, weather, safety needs, or technical issues can occasionally delay an update.

21. Can you give my pet treats?

Yes, but only with your permission. 🦴💗

During your Pet Check-In setup, we will ask whether your pet may receive treats and whether there are any:

  • Food allergies
  • Dietary restrictions
  • Medical restrictions
  • Preferred treats
  • Foods your pet should avoid

Whenever possible, we recommend that you provide your pet’s familiar treats.

Treats may be used for positive reinforcement and comfort, but Love Furry Babies will never rely on treats to enter or remain with a pet displaying aggressive or unsafe behavior.

22. What if my dog becomes scared, growls, or acts aggressively when you arrive?

Your pet’s safety and your caregiver’s safety both come first.

Even a friendly pet may behave differently when someone enters the home while their owner is away.

If a pet displays behavior such as:

  • Growling
  • Snapping
  • Lunging
  • Guarding the doorway
  • Attempting to bite
  • Preventing safe entry or exit

Love Furry Babies may delay entry, shorten the visit, leave the home, contact you or your emergency contact, or end the visit entirely.

Treats will not be used to pressure or lure an aggressive pet into allowing unsafe contact.

Please disclose all known behavioral concerns during your initial intake and Meet & Greet.

23. Why choose Love Furry Babies for Pet Check-Ins?

Because Pet Check-Ins are personal. Your Pet Check-Ins are provided by Sally Taylor, owner of Love Furry Babies, so you aren’t wondering which unfamiliar sitter will arrive at your home. Your free initial Meet & Greet gives you, Sally, and your furry baby a chance to become familiar and comfortable before the first unattended visit.

Every completed visit also includes a photo and text update so you know we’ve been there and can see how your furry baby is doing.

WHEN YOU CAN’T BE THERE, WE CAN!
